Spring Homeowner Checklist

Spring Homeowner ChecklistSpring is here! I am ready to be outside and done with the chilly winter months we’ve had. Now that it is getting warmer, your home is in need of some attention to make sure it’s ready for the changing season. To make sure you keep your home maintenance up to date, be sure to check off your to-do’s off of my spring homeowner checklist.

Air Conditioner

Texas heat comes unexpectedly. It could come tomorrow or we may not have to turn on those A/Cs until June. But while you’re making sure your home is spring ready, take the time to clean the air conditioner unit. Vacuum out the air intake area and inspect the belt tension. If the belt tension is low or the belt is cracked or broken now is the time to replace it, so you don’t get suck in the middle of a very hot day waiting on a repairman to come fix your unit.

Gutters

Clear out all of the debris, leaves, twigs, or anything else that could be stopping the water from flowing through the gutters. Also, be sure to check the fasteners of the gutters to keep them from leaking water into areas you don’t want your water to accumulate near your home.

Deck

For all homeowners with a wood deck, this is for you! Inspect your deck for moss or mold that has developed over the winter months. If you find that you have some moss or mold growing, use a power washer to get rid it. While you’re inspecting for moss or mold, be sure to check for any water issues developing that are causing unnecessary wear on your deck. This may require a professional to address this issue.

And if it’s been more than 4-6 years since your deck has had a good wood treatment, now’s the time to do that. Decks need this in order to keep up with the wear of foot traffic and water wear on the wood.

Sprinklers

While you’re outside checking the deck and gutters, its a good time to checkout your sprinklers. Look for leaking valves, exposed water lines, and sprinkler heads that are not functioning properly. If you’ve noticed some extensive issues with your sprinkler system, now would be a good time to call in a pro to have them fix it so you can keep your lawn looking healthy.

Clean

Now is a perfect time to get your spring cleaning done! Clean all those areas you don’t want to clean on a regular basis: fan blades, blinds, behind furniture, the tops of cabinets, the back-splash, and baseboards around your home. It’s amazing how much better your home will feel after cleaning the neglected areas of your house!

Springtime is a wonderful time of year, and it will be even better after checking off all of your to-do’s on your spring homeowner checklist. If you’ve forgotten about your winter checklist, check it out here to get your home back up to tip top shape!
