Expecting a little bundle of joy? Already have that bundle of joy and they’re about to be rocking and rolling those little legs around the house? Make sure you childproof your home to make it safe for your little ones.
Safety Locks/Latches
Kitchens and bathrooms drawers and cabinets need safety locks or latches to prevent poisoning, and to keep them out of sharp objects. Cleaners and other very dangerous objects frequently are kept low, perfect for a child to start to play in. Make sure these are secure and unable to be reached by wandering kiddos.
Safety Gates
These gates are so important to keep kids in the rooms that are safest for them. If they had their way they would always be right around a parent, as they should. However if they are to wander off, you want to make sure they stay out of the laundry room, or the bathroom, or whichever room is the least safe for them. So putting these gates will be critical to keeping you as worry free.
Additionally, don’t forget to put a safety gate around your pool, all of you Texans. It only takes a few seconds for them to wander into a pool.
Smoke and CO2 Alarms
These are good for everyone—make sure the batteries are good, and run a test to make sure its working. Batteries should be replaced every 3-4 months. You can add this to your season’s checklist. It’s on my fall checklist here!
Outlet Covers
Little ones love to mess with things they shouldn’t and light sockets definitely should not be messed with. Make sure they are secure, and not easy to pull out.
