Summer is just around the corner, but the heat is already here! While you’re out enjoying the warm weather and sunshine, it is important to make sure your home is ready for the new season. Be sure to check off your summertime to dos from my summer homeowner checklist:
Inspect Your A/C
As any Texan knows, air conditioning is pretty important for these summer months. If you’re like me, at least once a year my a/c goes out on one of the hottest days of the year. Sometimes this can be prevented! Be sure to check your a/c for any leaks or other issues that you can see. Also be sure to change your air filters as this can make a big difference in how the a/c works.
Check For External Damage
Spring storms can do a number on the exterior of homes. Tornadoes, wild winds, and lots of rain have plagued our area all spring. By checking the roof for leaks, the exterior for broken or damaged siding, or any visible rotting wood you can address a concern before it becomes a much larger problem. Additionally, it is a good idea to clean the sides of your home to get rid of any mildew that is growing from the wind and rain, but is not visible to the naked eye.
Repair Sidewalks and Driveways
With the weather being so much better than it has been, it is nice to get outside and enjoy it. While you’re out enjoying the weather, it is a good idea to repair any damage to sidewalks and driveways that have occurred. Some extra gravel, dirt, or asphalt can make these go from kinda broken to almost brand new.
Clean Outdoor Cooking Appliances
Summertime is perfect for grilling and barbecuing. But these appliances can be forgotten about. They need to be cleaned too! Be sure to give those grills, smokers, and cooktops a good cleaning so they’re ready for all the grilling that is to come over the next few months.
Summertime is my favorite time of year. Days by the pool, and nights with friends and family make it a wonderful time. By taking some extra time to take care of your home, you can enjoy it with the peace of mind that your home is in tip top shape!
