4 Things to do on your day trip to Fort Worth

4 Things To Do On Your Day Trip To Fort WorthThe Denton County area has some really great things for everyone to do, but sometimes its really nice to take some little day trips to experience some of what is so close by! Fort Worth is one of my favorite cities to spend the day in. There is so much to do and it is just a straight shot south on 35W from the Aubrey area. It’s not too far for a day trip to spend with family to find something a little different from the quaint small town life of Aubrey. Fort Worth is full of museums, shops, restaurants, and outdoor activities that it makes it hard to pick just a few of my favorite things to do! Here are my top 4 picks of my favorite things do to on your day trip to Fort Worth, Texas:

Where the West begins

“Where the West begins” is the nickname give to Fort Worth and for good reason. Fort Worth were the place to stop along the Chisolm Trail, making it a mecca of all things cattle and horses. The Fort Worth Stockyards became the location for ranchers to buy and sell cattle, and is now a historic landmark that it incredibly well preserved. The Stockyards have daily cattle drives reminding visitors of the 1800 hayday it was and also has a weekly rodeo! If you want to get the detailed history of the Stockyards there is a museum. There are some fantastic Western shops and delicious restaurants lining the streets, and if you want the whole Stockyard experience; Billy Bob’s Texas is the place to be. It’s the world’s biggest honky-tonk and has weekly concerts that make it a ton of fun to experience. There is a little bit of everything to get the taste of old Texas, making it a really fun day trip stop for everyone.

Sundance Square

Sundance Square has a little bit of everything for everyone. Located near downtown the Square is filled to the brim with great shopping, awesome food, and is located near many entertainment options. The Square spans 35 blocks and in the heart of all the shopping and dining there is a fantastic patio featuring fountains, plenty of places to sit and enjoy the weather or some of the many events that the Square puts on nightly. Depending on the day, you could be enjoying an art festival or some live music. For additional entertainment near the Square is Bass Hall, home to Texas Ballet Theatre, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and the Fort Worth Opera. For information on events at Bass Performance Hall check out their website.

Sundance Square has free parking every night after 5pm and on weekends. If you shop or dine with a Sundance Square merchant, they can validate your parking so it is free all the time. For more information about parking, restaurants or shops in Sundance Square check out their website here.

U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing

Okay, this is one of the coolest tours I’ve ever been through. There are only 2 locations in the country that produce the U.S. currency; Washington D.C. and Fort Worth! This tour is free and open Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5:30pm. The tour is self guided with an audio option that features a catwalk above the printing of money. While walking through the facility, each step is well explained. After walking through the exhibit there is also a small museum that explains some additional information about the money producing process.

While this is an excellent museum, be sure to read the security information prior to going. Cell phones, backpacks, electronics for example are not permitted in the facility. For more information on visiting the Bureau of Engraving and Printing visit their website here.

Trinity Park

For all outdoor enthusiasts this is for you! Trinity Park is located along the Trinity River near downtown Fort Worth and close to the Fort Worth Zoo. The park has numerous hiking, equestrian, and biking trails, and plenty of picnic tables to enjoy the outdoors. If you want to take advantage of the Trinity River, there are 5 boat drops for canoeing or paddleboarding. For those who still want to enjoy the water but don’t want to canoe, there is a duck pond and a fishing pond. For more information on Trinity Park or Trinity Trails visit their website here.

Dallas gets a lot of attention, due to its size and some of its attractions that it offers; but Fort Worth is one of my favorite places to spend the day. Hopefully you take a day trip out of Denton County and enjoy some of the nearby attractions from Fort Worth!
