It’s that time of year again, time for the North Texas Fair and Rodeo! This is personally one of my very favorite events and things to do in Denton. This year’s fair starts this week on Friday, August 19th, and runs through next Saturday, August 27th. It sounds to be a fair not to be missed as the events are going to be better than ever!
Rodeo
Each night of the fair has a rodeo event going on! The first of these is the PRCA rodeo, and spans the first three nights of the North Texas Fair and Rodeo, August 19th-21st. which will have bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, calf roping and barrel racing to name a few. On August 22nd, there will be the Invitational Ranch Rodeo. This rodeo will have team branding, maverick catch-in and bronc riding among many more. For all the kiddos, there is a 21 and under rodeo the next 2 nights. And the last two nights there will be the Bull Blowout! The rodeo is such a blast and will surely be a great time for the whole family.
Music
The music scene is one of the top things to do in Denton and the fair is no exception to making sure it is a premier music event along with the rodeo. This year Josh Abbott Band will kick of the music scene on Friday August 19th at 9:30! I’ve seen this band before and it is one fantastic performance that you won’t want to miss. Saturday night’s headliner is Steve Wariner and Sunday will be La Reunion Nortena all begining at 9:30pm.
Monday night’s music headliner will be Jake Hooker & the Outsiders, Tuesday night will be Shotgun Rider, and Wednesday will feature Shane Smith & the Saints. For the start of the early weekend we will get to enjoy Casey Donahew Band on Thursday night, and Friday will be the always fantastic Randy Rogers Band who played last year at the North Texas Fair and Rodeo. Charlie Daniels will wrap up the music festivities on Saturday night.
Every night there are various music venues and events that begin at 6 and another that kicks off at 11, so be sure to check the music schedule to find what music you can’t miss. Plus, the best part of all this great music coming to the fair is that it is included in your admission!
Parade
On Saturday, August 20th, right after opening day there will be the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo Parade that begins at Denton High School and works it’s way down to the historic Denton Square and wraps back up to Denton High School. It begins at 10 am, so be sure not to miss it!
Tickets and Getting There
Ticket prices are $5 for kids under 12, free for under 6 years old, and for adults it is $15 Sunday-Thursday and advance for Saturday. Fridays and Saturdays (if not purchased in advance) are $20 per adult. If you plan on going several days, be sure to think about a multi day pass, which could save some money. But if you’re planing on only going on day, there are various local businesses that have discounted tickets. Be sure to check out the entire list of discounted ticket locations here. New for this year is the shuttle that can take you to the fair and rodeo. It picks up at the Denton High School parking lot and the First Baptist Church of Denton from 5:30pm-12:30am on both Saturdays.
There is so much packed into these few days and it is so much fun for all.
