Aubrey is one of the best cities in North Texas. Not only because it’s my own personal opinion, but it has received several accolades over the years. Most recently it was voted one of the healthiest neighborhoods by the Dallas Morning News. Aubrey is a quaint town just outside the growing city of Denton, known for it’s many horse ranches it’s commonly referred to as Horse Country USA. Since it’s such a great place to live, I want to give you a little info about Aubrey. Population
The population of Aubrey in 2010 (during the last census) was 2,595 people. This still isn’t a very big city, but it’s increased almost 80% since 2000! The population density for Aubrey is about 1,000 people per square mile, and the most recent estimated population for Aubrey is about 2,800 residents.
Crime
The crime rate in Aubrey is very low, not only compared to the national average but also the state average. On average there are about 1,500 incidents per 100,000 people in Aubrey. There have been no recent violent crime. The most common crimes that are reported are burglary, and theft.
Education
Aubrey has a great school district. According to Zillow.com Aubrey schools are all ranked 8-9 out of 10. The student to teacher ratio is lower than the state average for the middle school and high school and just around average for the elementary schools. In Aubrey ISD, there are 2 elementary schools, and just 1 high school and middle school for the district.
86.9% of Aubrey residents have a high school degree or higher, and 20.4% have a bachelor’s degree or higher! Aubrey is a great school district with some great programs!
Work and Commute
According to the US Census bureau, the unemployment rate in Aubrey is just 3.65%. The majority of residents work in educational services, health care, and social assistance positions. Professional, scientific, management, and administrative services come by a close second with the majority of the population working in these positions.
Home Price
The median sales price from April of 2017 in Aubrey was at $260,000! The homes have been selling quickly and the prices have continued to rise since the previous year. In 2016, the median was at just $200,000. Homes in Aubrey have been staying on the market a little under a month, just 19 days in April.
Festivals and Events
Some of the highlights of living in Aubrey are the Peanut Festival and the Friday Night Lights of Aubrey Football. The Peanut Festival happens the first Saturday of October, and it is something that residents look forward to. The festival celebrates the heritage of the old peanut factory with a parade, food, and vendors for the whole day.
Residents also can be found at Friday night football games at the Aubrey High School stadium. It’s a great community event to support the football team, and is a lot of fun to cheer on the Chaparrals.
