Best Things to do on Spring Break Near Denton County

Best Things to do on Spring Break Near Denton CountySpring break for Aubrey and Denton schools are only a couple of weeks away! With the weather being as fantastic as it’s been the last few weeks, kids will love getting out of school and enjoying the break. If you’re planning on sticking around the Denton County area for the kiddos break, there are some fantastic stay-cation things to do. Here are some of my favorite things to do for spring break near Denton County:

Texas Tulips

A somewhat new attraction just a few minutes up the road from Aubrey, in Pilot Point, is Texas Tulips. Texas Tulips is the first tulip farm located in Texas, and it’s a spectacular place to see. Texas Tulips is a family run business that is situated on over 80 acres of land that has sprawling fields of colorful tulips. This gorgeous farm land allows guests to pick tulips as they stroll around the grounds and purchase them as they leave. Additionally they have a hay maze for little kids who might not be as excited about picking the flowers. The farm is opened in mid-February and is open through mid-April (depending on weather. Admission costs $3 and tulips are $2.50 a stem. For more information check out their website here.

Road Trip

Although I did say this is a stay-cation, there are plenty of “road trips” that are close by! Dallas is only a 45-50 minute drive from Aubrey and less than that from Denton. Or take a trip over to Fort Worth which is about the same distance, just another direction. There is so much to do in both cities that it’s worth a little trek over there. Some of my favorite things to do in Dallas are Reunion Tower, catching a Mavs game, or chilling out at Klyde Warren park. I’ve got a whole Dallas guide here. And for Fort Worth the Stockyards are a must, and so are the many museums like the zoo or Amon Carter Museum.

Great Wolf Lodge

Now if you want the experience of traveling but don’t want to leave the DFW metro, this is the place all the kids will love. Great Wolf Lodge has a massive 80,000 square foot indoor water park that is open year round. So even though local pools may not be up to swimming temperatures, Great Wolf Lodge will be. There are water slides and play areas perfect for everyone. If swimming isn’t your kids cup of tea, there are countless other options for kids to do including a laser obstacle course, kids spa, a build your own bear, arcade, and times to hang out with the characters that roam around the hotel. Hotel room rates vary from $200 and up but include admission to the water park for the days you are staying. For more information, check out their website.

Denton Square

If there’s one place I love to spend some free time, is the Denton Square. With historic charm and tons of restaurants and stores, I can easily spend the day wandering around with my family. The square is centered around the historic Denton Courthouse, which currently houses a museum. Around the courthouse are numerous quirky shops and restaurants, all of which are fantastic. Some of my favorite shops are: Recycled Books (located in an old opera house), Denton Visitor’s Center, and a few great home stores. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite Denton Restaurants, but a don’t miss is Chestnut Tree, LSA Burgers, and for dessert Beth Marie’s Ice Cream.
