Happy new year! I hope everyone has had a great start to 2017. With the start of the new year, resolutions are often made for health or other personal reasons. These are all great, but don’t let your house get overlooked while making your resolutions. There are so many different areas that homeowners need to address throughout the year, and can sometimes get overlooked when life gets busy. Here are my 4 homeowner New Year’s resolutions:
Get Rid of Clutter
I think this one of the most common resolutions for people, and for good reason. The winter months seem to accumulate lots of stuff. New gifts from the holidays, entertaining, and being cooped up in the cold bring extra clutter into homes and at the start of the new year, there is no better time to de-clutter. Clean up the shelves, get rid of old items, and clothing that are just taking up space.
Stay On Your Seasonal Checklists
Make a resolution to stay up on all of the seasonal checklists that need to be done to maintain your home. Once the kids are back in school and work picks up again, it can be tough to stay on top of the little things. But let me tell you if feels really good to know you don’t have to scramble around getting little things done at the end of year if you make the resolution to stay on top of your seasonal checklists! I’ve got you covered for all the seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall.
Make Some Updates
If you’ve got a home, you know there are almost always a couple of little projects that you want done around the house. I know I always have an eye for something, whether it be a new decoration, a kitchen renovation or a new roof. Make a resolution for 2017 to tackle some of those projects, whether they be big or small.
Security
I think this is always a good thing to revisit; home security. Now Aubrey is a very safe little town, but it’s still good to be diligent about checking the areas that can be cause for caution. If you have a security system, be sure to check it out every month or so to assure it is still working well. Also, making sure you have appropriate home insurance, and that your policy is still up to date now that it is the new year.
New year’s resolutions are a great thing to have, but also to make sure they last all year. Sometimes your house can get overlooked in the areas that it needs to be looked over, but not in 2017!
