Thanksgiving has come to an end, and now we are in the season filled with shopping and Christmas spirit now that December is almost here! I love Christmas in DFW and the area has some spectacular places to get in the Christmas spirit. If you’re new to the area, or are looking for some new ideas for family Christmas places this is the list for you:
Highland Park Christmas Lights
This is one of my family’s favorite places to look at Christmas lights, and has become a tradition for us. Highland Park is just north of Dallas and spans between the Dallas North Tollway and Hwy 75 east-west and north-south spans from Amstrong Rd and Mockingbird Ln. It’s a highly affluent area, and has some of the most expensive homes and real estate in North Texas. The homes are adorned with Christmas lights and are spectacular to look at. If driving the streets isn’t your thing, you can oftentimes find a horse and carriage ride to take you down the streets of Highland Park.
ICE! At The Gaylord Texan
ICE! at the Gaylord Texan is a real treat for everyone. ICE! is located in the Gaylord Texan hotel in Grapevine, TX, and every year they bring in a large exhibit of ice sculptures. Additionally these sculptures are all themed, and this year’s theme is Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. The sculptures are spectacular and walk you through their freezing room holding all the sculptures. Not only can you see Santa Claus, but they also have a huge ice slide for everyone to ride down. At the end of the themed exhibit they include a gorgeous nativity scene. Some extras they have added on to the exhibit include a snow tube slide for the kiddos and an ice bar for the adults.
ICE! is at the Gaylord Texan until January 1st and tickets range from $12.99 to $19.99 for kids and $21.99 to $32.99 for adults. For more information check out the Gaylord Texan website.
Denton Holiday Lighting
Anyone living near Denton, this is a holiday event definitely not miss. The Denton Holiday Lighting Festival will be held on December 2nd, 2016 at the Denton Square. This year’s event will have 3 outdoor stages located around the historic courthouse, along with other areas inside several buildings along the square filled with live music and performances. Santa will be there to take pictures with kids for just $7. Also, there will be wagon rides available for just $5 a ride. The big event everyone will be waiting for– the tree lighting, will begin at 6:00. All events will kick off at 5:30 and go until 8:00. For more information check out the Denton Holiday Lighting Festival website here.
Ice Skating at Galleria
The Galleria is located just north of the heart of Dallas and has some of the best shopping in Dallas. Daily starting from November 25th through December 24th the 55 foot tree is lit up to Christmas music for all the mall guests to see. The choreographed Christmas lighting happens every 2 hours starting at 12pm. On Saturdays in December, Macy’s sponsors an extra special Christmas tree lighting featuring a backfliping Santa at 6:00.
After you’ve watched the Christmas lights, and finished up your shopping you can go downstairs to ice skate around the Christmas tree. Most days ice skating is open to the public from 10:00am-10:00pm, but be sure to check the website to confirm the hours for the day you visit. It’s just $11 to admission and $3 for skate rentals. For more information about ice skating, the Christmas tree lighting, or shopping at the Galleria visit their website here.
