Happy Labor Day! Labor day marks (finally!) the start of fall and fellow Texans can start looking forward to a a break from those 100 degree. With these cooler days, homeowners should start to get their homes ready for this new season. Here is my recommended checklist:
Clean the Gutters
All those fall leaves are beautiful; however if you already have some dirty gutters before fall comes, you may have a mess to clean up once the fall leaves come down.
Get Outside
Well not to play in those leaves quite yet, but to check your windows and doors for any gaps in the caulk or weather stripping. This simple fix could save you money on your heating bill once you have to crank up the temperature indoors and those brisk fall days come.
Check out your roof
Texas ice storms are a mess and windy fall days can do a number on your roof. Getting ahead of this before you have a major problem with a leaky roof will prevent a headache from happening later on.
What’s in your fireplace?
Fireplaces build up soot and require routine cleaning to prevent a buildup. This buildup can lead to fires starting from the inside of your fireplace so a routine check is critical to your fireplace.
Fire and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
The batteries in all your home detectors should be checked or replaced if needed every 4 months. Pressing the test button will let you sleep easy knowing they are all working. Additionally, while you are checking all those detectors make sure you’ve got one in every room of your home.
